Librarian

Overview

Librarians work at community, state and national libraries. They manage library systems and resources such as books, videos and publications and help customers find the materials they need.

Suits people who are organised, independent and have good attention to detail. An interest in interacting with people of all ages is helpful.

Day-to-day

• help customers to find library resources
• develop and implement library and information policies and services
• assist with selection and purchase of books and materials on behalf of the library
• manage library systems and update resources and databases
• classify and catalogue library resources
• manage inter-library loan systems and information networks
• plan library promotion activities and community programs
• review and evaluate services in response to customer needs
• run training courses for library customers.
