Organise the operations of hotels and motels, providing guest accommodation, meals and other services.

Overview

Hotel or motel managers oversee all day-to-day operations and functions of a hotel or motel. These include managing reservations, security, supervising reception, coordinating room service, hospitality and housekeeping activities.

Suitable for people with good communication and listening skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. Organisation, coordination and leadership skills are important.

Day-to-day

  • oversee reception and housekeeping services, garden, maintenance and security arrangements
  • plan bar, restaurant, function and conference activities
  • ensure liquor, gaming, and other laws and regulations are observed
  • assess and review customer satisfaction forms and feedback
  • speak to patrons to resolve problems or complaints
  • oversee accounting and purchasing activities
  • ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
  • manage staff and contractors
  • provide guests with local tourism information and arrange tours and transportation.
